Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen and its new Depot in Rotterdam have a new director. From the second half of May 2019, Ina Klaassen has been appointed Director alongside Director Sjarel Ex.
Ina Klaassen (1969) grew up in Groningen, where she studied audio-visual art atAcademie Minerva and art and arts policy at the University of Groningen.Prior to her appointment as Managing Director of Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen in 2013,Klaassen was Dean of the Willem de Kooning Academy in Rotterdam and Director of Fine Arts at the ArtEZ Institute of the Arts. Klaassen worked for more than eight years for the City of Rotterdam in various roles, including Senior Advisor and Deputy Director ofArt and Culture.
In her capacity as Managing Director, she was head of the Operational Management Sector and responsible for the museum’s building projects.Since her arrival at the museum, she has focused on organisational development, automation and risk management, and has also directed the internal management of the realisation of the Depot and the preparations for the large-scale renovation and modernisation oft he museum. From 16 May 2019, Ina Klaassen will perform an equal management and policy-making role alongside Sjarel Ex. She will continue to focus on the future of the museum, the Depot and overall business operations. The new two-person board of directors is responsible for all the museum’s affairs. The appointment of a second director is a response to the growth of and changes within the organisation and is intended to ensure continuity in the museum’s leadership.
