1 May 2024: Tickets go on sale for Craving for Boijmans!

As part of the celebrations of Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen 175th anniversary, tickets for Craving for Boijmans go on sale at 10.00 am today, Wednesday 1 May. This joyous event offers visitors a special art tour through the museum’s monumental building, which is currently a construction site. Craving for Boijmans runs from 1 June to 7 July  2024. After these five weeks, the building will close again until the renovations are complete.

Full of memories

The building may be ‘empty’, but it is full of memories. It has a beating heart. As you walk through the empty galleries, you will immediately be reminded of amazing exhibitions, events and artworks. Works from the collection will bridge the gap between then and now.

Interventions by contemporary artists provide active stimuli for dreams of the future. The event will appeal to visitors young and old: from those who experienced the opening in 1935 as a child to today’s young visitors who are fans of Olaf Nicolai’s football cage and Studio Wieki Somers’ carrousel cloakroom.

A taste of what awaits: Visitors will be met at the old entrance by a unique stained-glass panel by Jacoba van Heemskerck from c.1920. Matthew Barney’s ground-breaking performance from 1995 will be brought back to life. The duo FreelingWaters (Gijs Frieling and Job Wouters) are the first artists to work in the building, creating a contemporary ‘salon hang’ that references the painting collection. Artist and designer Christien Meindertsma will show a grand piano made from the felt of Rotterdam sheep! Other items from the collection that will be on display include video artworks, sculptures, glass and ceramics. A painting by René Daniels will be shown in a special climate-controlled box. A complete list of works will follow.
